Engineerium
Innovative and high-tech computers and robotics equipment are just the beginning at the new Burns & McDonnell Engineerium at Science City, where students work, play and perform experiments in a real engineering environment.
The Engineerium features grade-level-specific programs where teams of students work together to build moving, functioning Lego© robots, all the while learning skills like brainstorming, measuring, comparing, predicting, making models and identifying and controlling variables.
Programs in the Engineerium are ideal for both school groups and public visitors. Educational programming will include one- to two-hour sessions for students grades K-12, Saturday Family Workshops, a Teacher Training Session and future programs featuring additional themes.
At the Teacher Training Session, educators will become familiar with the skills involved in designing and testing a robot. Related academic activities and materials will be available to take for classroom use, as well as pre-visit materials for teachers planning Engineerium field trips.
The Engineerium field trips meet curriculum standards for both Missouri and Kansas, including science as inquiry, science and technology, force and motion, physical science and more. Check out the curriculum details below.
