Dinosaurs Revealed Sets Record Pace for Exhibition Attendance at Union Station Proving Passion for Dinosaurs is Anything But Extinct

More than 50,000 guests have visited Dinosaurs Revealed in fewer than forty days

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (August 6, 2018) – Officials at Union Station today announced that over the weekend total attendance for “Dinosaurs Revealed: Journey Across America” reached and surpassed 50,000 guests representing 29 states and several foreign countries.

The exhibition, which opened to the public June 30th, takes guests on a fascinating, hands-on journey through 200 million years of history to encounter dinosaurs that once roamed North America and were discovered at world-famous geologic dig-sites, primarily in the western United States.

Included are 26 like-life and life-size animatronic dinosaurs, actual fossils, full dinosaur skeletons, and interactive exhibits. The exhibition, which was developed in partnership with The University of Kansas Paleontological Institute and The University of Missouri – Kansas City’s school for geosciences and paleontology, is proving interest in Dinosaurs remains strong and Union Station’s science-based approach is delivering content that matters most.

“Within the first 10 days of opening we knew from guest feedback we had created a world-class exhibition and the public’s appetite for dinosaurs was anything but extinct,” George Guastello, Union Station president and CEO, said. “In those first 10 days, 15,000 guests came through our doors to take this unforgettable journey. Now that we have surpassed the 50,000 mark so quickly, it’s very likely Dinosaurs Revealed will set total attendance records. Comments from guests continue to validate our approach of blending science, history and hands-on elements to engage audiences of every age.”

In response to many guests wanting to return for additional visits, officials at Union Station are committed to refreshing content in the coming months. For example, supplemental programming is currently being finalized for this fall and winter at a time when many area school groups will also be adding the exhibition to their curriculum. Plus, a renowned paleontologist from the University of Kansas Paleontological Institute will deliver an exciting lecture this fall during which he’ll share discoveries made over the summer months.

“Exciting new dinosaur discoveries are being made regularly that continue to capture and keep the public’s interest,” Jerry Baber, Union Station executive vice president and COO, said. “When Union Station initially conceived Dinosaurs Revealed as our first self-produced exhibition, we knew it would appeal to a wide and diverse audience. We then gathered experts from around the world to help bring the content to life. Naturally, we also discussed the real potential to tour the exhibition after it closes in Kansas City. Now that we’re seeing the record number of early visitors and volume of positive feedback, it’s certain that audiences around the country will be equally enthusiastic.  It’s a remarkable story around a topic that absolutely fascinates young and old alike. We’re very excited to see where this all goes!”
