What a thrill it was for all of us at Union Station to help honor Michael R. Haverty – Chairman, Kansas City Southern and visionary past Chairman (and current member) of Union Station Board of Directors – as he was awarded the J. Phillip Kirk, Jr. Award. On January 10, the Downtown Council of Kansas City specifically noted business and civic accomplishments and contributions made by Mr. Haverty, with emphasis on his determination to place Union Station in the top-tier destinations of our region. Mr. Haverty indeed loves this city and Union Station. We appreciate what he has done to ensure our special place in this amazing community we all call home.
For reference, Michael Haverty served as Chairman of the Union Station Kansas City Board from 2005 – 2012. Additionally, in June of 2012, Union Station offered a lasting tribute to Mr. Haverty by renaming the pedestrian bridge that links Union Station with the Freight House and Crossroads Districts. The bridge is now known as the Michael R. Haverty Freight House Bridge. And this year, Michael and Marlys Haverty are Honorary Chairs of the Union Station 100th Anniversary Celebration.
