Xtreme BUGS are marching, flying, and crawling into Union Station! Get up close to these massive, moving, and buzzing insect and arthropod models. Come experience an environment that is larger than we are! Get up close and personal with over 100 giant bugs that are usually hidden from view.
Explore the fascinating world of bugs on an extreme scale to understand why, even though they're small, bugs play a critical role in our environment, culture, scientific research, and the global economy.
See the details of their bodies; hear their buzzing, chirping, and hissing; and watch them move. You’ll encounter many species, including an orchid mantis, a tarantula, a vinegaroon, and a giant Madagascar hissing cockroach.
As you explore the exhibit, you’ll find that each bug has a story to tell. Discover how ants use their sense of smell to find food and how bees are one of nature’s most important pollinators.
From bees producing the honey we eat to spider webs that inspire engineering design, bugs have an enormous influence on our world. Their effect on the environment, food production, medicine, and pop culture are all reasons that we find them so fascinating and scientists continue to study them.
